Glass tiles have been specified for the above referenced project. There are three different types of glass tiles: cast glass, fused glass, and low temperature coated glass. Furthermore, glass tiles are divided into three size categories: large format (approx. 3 in.x3 in. [76 mm x 76 mm] and larger), mosaic (approx. between 3 in. x3 in. [76 mm x 76 mm] and 3/4 in. x3/4 in. [19 mm 19 mm]), and miniature mosaic (approx. smaller than 3/4 in. x3/4 in. [19 mm x 19 mm]). Different glass tile types and sizes have varying performance and aesthetic requirements that are defined by ANSI A137.2 American National Standard Specifications for Glass Tile. The individual tiles for all types and size categories may be free standing or are mounted together to create assemblies or sheets of tile that allow for more effi cient installation. Glass tiles that are mounted can be done so in one of several different ways such as removable paper facing, edge mounting or back mounting. Different glass mosaic tile types and sizes, and the different mounting methods that might be employed, can have an impact on varying levels of performance and aesthetics. Additionally, for example, some may be suitable for wet areas such as pools or spas and others may not. To help ensure a successful installation, the following must be provided to us by the glass tile distributor or manufacturer: • Glass tile performance test results for the statement of intended use, confor mance to ANSI A137.2, and relevant glass tile type (cast, fused, low tempera ture-coated) and size category (large format, mosaic, miniature mosaic) • Substrate requirements • Detailed installation instructions • Waterproofing and crack-isolation membrane recommendations • Setting material and grout recommendations • Expansion joint requirements The service environment for the glass tiles may also require specific installation instructions and materials.
The timely provision of this information to us is greatly appreciated.
