THE PROCESS AND MOVEMENT REQUIRED TO PROVIDE CORRECT MORTAR COVERAGE
MORTAR DI RECTION
TILE B
TILE C
TILE D
TILE A
To obtain acceptable mortar coverage, set Tile D tightly to the adjacent A, B, and C tiles in the upper left corner. Press down on Tile D while moving it to the right with a downward motion while putting pressure on the tile as you move to the right, 1/4" to 3/8", then move back to the left diagonally toward tile A and B to create the specified grout joint. The grout joint will have no mortar squeeze up.
Notched trowels at left from top to bottom; Euro, Superior, and 60° slant notch, along with a 1/4" x 3/8" Square or U-notch, can provide 80% mortar coverage for a tile installation using a 33% offset pattern and a 1/8" grout joint, as seen in the image above.
